Naveen Patnaik's sister Gita Mehta 'not interested in politics'

Putting all speculations to rest, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday made it clear that his elder sister and acclaimed author Gita Mehta is not interested in politics.

"My sister is not interested in any political position; not in Rajya Sabha or anything else," Patnaik told media persons here.

A rumour made rounds of the local political circles that Gita Mehta would join politics and replace Bishnu Das in the Rajya Sabha. Some leaders in the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) had gone a step ahead and even hailed her possible entry into politics.

The speculations gained momentum after Das resigned as the member of the Upper House. Das had been elected to the Rajya Sabha on the Biju Janata Dal ticket only last year and had not even completed his first year out of the statutory six-year term.
