Home Minister Rajnath Singh has asked security agencies to take urgent steps for neutralising modules linked to militant outfit Jamaaat-ul-Mujahideen (JMB), which was purportedly involved in a blast this month in Burdwan district of West Bengal.
Home ministry officials said Tuesday that Rajnath Singh's directive came after he was briefed by National Security Advisor Ajit Doval following his visit to West Bengal Monday.
They said the home minister asked the NSA to take steps for immediately neutralising modules linked to the militant group.
Doval, accompanied by National Security Guard (NSG) chief J.N. Choudhury and NIA Director General Sharad Kumar, went round the house in Khagragarh in Burdwan district where an explosion Oct 2 killed two JMB militants and injured another.
The NSA, along with Choudhury and special secretary of internal security in the union home ministry Prakash Mishra, later flew down to Kolkata and discussed the issue with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
After the meeting, Mishra said the Centre has taken the matter "very seriously" and would take the case to its logical end.
