New committee to bring administrative reforms in JNU

Following repeated complaints from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) teachers association, the vice-chancellor has decided to set up a committee for reforms in administration.

The decision was taken at the executive council meeting held Nov 4.

"A committee will be set up for the reform of administration in JNU.... Similarly, a committee will be set up for the reform of Project Cell administration so that the harassment of faculty is eliminated," Arun Kumar, JNUTA president, said in a statement.

Further, a committee would be constituted to implement policies that would reduce pollution on campus.

"Traffic planning committee to rationalize and regulate traffic on JNU campus so that accidents and inconvenience to all are minimized will start functioning immediately. JNUTA has suggested names of faculty members to represent various parts of the campus," added Kumar.

In a further relief to the teachers, varsity vice chancellor S. K. Sopory has agreed that on the pension issue, JNU will immediately formulate its position on the basis of the Delhi High Court judgment of April 2014.

The judgement had allowed the teachers to be a part of the General Provident Fund (GPF)-cum-pension scheme, even if they had not availed it earlier. GPF scheme provides for monthly pension after retirement.

On the issue of plagiarism, the vice-chancellor stated that a draft note has been prepared and will be given to the committee set up by JNUTA to study the problem.
