IAS officer Kanchan Verma on Saturday took charge as the new Vice Chairperson of the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA).
The 2005 batch officer is GDA's 32nd VC and has earlier served as District Magistrate of Mirzapur, Amroha, and Fatehpur. She also has experience of the NCR, having been the Chief Development Officer of Gautam Budh Nagar in 2009.
At a press conference, she said among her priorities is meeting the challenge of the increasing load on urban infrastructure due to migration from rural areas.
As a regulatory authority, the GDA is bound to provide the best possible infrastructure keeping a long term planning of 50 years of migratory effects in its mind, she said, adding that technology changes within 10 years, so the GDA has to update itself to meet such challenges.
To a query about the increasing financial crunch in the authority and the challenges of its upcoming projects, Verma said that she would first understand the problems and then would take them up with the state government.
