Ahead of India's tour of Zimbabwe, medium fast bowler Mohit Sharma said the new rules in the limited overs implemented by the International Cricket Council (ICC) will help the bowlers, who will go for less runs.
Ajinkya Rahane was named captain of the 15-member team as Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Virat Kohli, among other seniors, were rested. India leave for Zimbabwe on Tuesday morning to play three One-Day Internationals (ODI) and two Twenty20 Internationals.A India face the hosts in the first ODI on July 10.
The changes made in ODI cricket include; the teams don't need to put compulsory catchers during the fielding restrictions overs between 1-10. Moreover, batting Powerplay has been removed, while five fielders are allowed outside the circle in overs between 41-50.
"For us the new rules that have come up will be a positive factor. We can keep five fielders outside the circle. Overall it will plus for us as we will go for less runs compared to the past," Mohit said here.
Speaking on the advice he got from Dhoni, he said, "I have learnt a lot from Mahi bhai, more on how to control oneself in pressure situations. He remains so cool on the field, I have learnt that from him. I also now know how to handle tough situations and face them properly."
The fast bowler made his ODI debut against Zimbabwe and he is aware of the wickets that the hosts Zimbabwe are going to offer.
"This will be my second tour to Zimbabwe. I toured Zimbabwe in my debut series. I know the wicket how it will come out. I don't want to think too much into the tour, just keep things simple and keep on bowling on the right line and length and be positive," the 26-year-old Haryana bowler said.
"There will be good bounce and swing on the wicket which will favour the fast bowlers. I will be positive and will aim to deliver well for the team," Mohit said.
