The National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) in collaboration with the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau will soon launch a new tiger tracking system, Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar said Tuesday.
The new system will be based on track counts and will help in controlling wildlife crimes in tiger reserves, the minister said in his address to the 10th meeting of the NTCA here.
He said a special "alert system" would also be utilised in case of disasters pertaining to fire and floods.
Javadekar said the government believed in development in consonance with conservation.
Emphasising the need to conserve the tiger reserves in the country, he said there was a need to make wildlife conservation a "people's movement".
It was critical for each stakeholder to participate in making tiger conservation a reality, and states needed to be critical stakeholders in the effort to preserve the tiger population in the country, he said.
The NTCA has been the nodal agency for tiger conservation for over 40 years.
