New Zealand completed a 2-0 whitewash of the West Indies after thrashing them by 240 runs in the second cricket Test at Seddon Park here on Tuesday.

Chasing a mammoth 444, the Caribbean side could only muster one brave stand -- a 78-run association for the sixth wicket between Roston Chase (64) and Raymon Riefer (29) before being skittled out for a mere 203 on the penultimate day of the match.

The Kiwis rode on a combined effort from their pacers Neil Wagner (3/42), Trent Boult (2/52) and Tim Southee (2/71) to bundle out the West Indian line-up before left-arm spinner Mitchell Santner (2/13) cleaned up the tail.

Resuming the fourth morning at 30/2, West Indies lost three quick wickets to reach 106/5 by lunch before Chase reached his half century off 89 deliveries.

Just as the sixth wicket stand between Chase and Riefer started to flourish, Southee managed to break it with the scalp of Reifer, whose 109-ball vigil was cut short by a stunning catch from Kiwi skipper Kane Williamson.

Chase was positive through the course of his 98 ball-stay in the middle, but it was his ability to resist hooking Wagner that allowed him to survive so long.

But Wagner soon ended Chase's resistance as New Zealand completed an outright win despite tailender Kemar Roach opening his shoulders during a 44-ball 32.

Brief Scores: New Zealand 373, 291/8 declared beat West Indies 221, 203 (Roston Chase 64; Neil Wagner 3/42) by 240 runs.
