Newborn recovered from Kolkata playground

A newborn kid was recovered from a playground here on Thursday morning, police said.

"A newborn baby boy, aged about five days, was recovered from the Banwari Singh Maidan in south Kolkata's Ekbalpur area on Thursday morning," said an officer from Ekbalpur police station.

The locals found the kid inside a plastic bag and informed police.

"The baby boy has been admitted to Seth Sukhlal Karnani Memorial (SSKM) Hospital. His condition is stable now," the officer said.

"We have received no claims for the baby yet. It is not certain if the kid was deserted by any child trafficking racket," he added.

Several newborn kids have been recovered from various parts of Bengal since the unearthing of child trafficking rackets in the state.

CID sleuths have conducted raids at various city and suburban hospitals and arrested doctors, nursing home owners, nurses and attendants for their alleged involvement in trafficking.
