The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Tuesday asked Uttar Pradesh government to explain allegedly "insensitive" remarks by an official over the suicide by four members of a family.
Asked the reason over the deaths, the then home secretary replied that birth was the reason behind death and loudly laughed it away.
"The commission has taken note of the news report that the officer has been transferred from the post of secretary (home). However, it has asked the chief secretary, to submit a detailed report on the issue within four weeks for his utterly insensitive comments," said an official of the NHRC.
A man and his three children committed suicide in Sonebhadra district May 22.
