Nigerian forces foil prison break

Nigerian forces thwarted a prison break in the city of Calabar, police officials said.

Unknown number of gunmen Friday attempted to force their way into the Afokang prison but were repelled, a state police spokesperson told Xinhua.

The situation has returned to normal, he said, adding that there were no casualties.

He said investigation has commenced to ascertain the motive of the attackers.
