Nearly nine lakh student-borrowers will benefit approximately Rs.2,600 crore, Finance Minister P. Chidambaram said Monday, while presenting the interim budget for 2014-15 in the Lok Sabha.

"Nearly nine lakh student-borrowers will benefit to the tune of approximately Rs.2,600 crore. A sum of Rs.2,600 crore will be provided in the current financial year itself," Chidambaram said.

He said 10 years ago, only a few students got education loans.
