The body of a nine-year-old girl who had been raped was found Tuesday in a field on the outskirts of this Uttar Pradesh capital, police said.
The daughter of a brick kiln worker from Bihar had gone to see a 'nautanki' (play) near her home in Sirsodhi village in Barabanki district but did not return, Lucknow's Inspector General of Police (IG) Subhash Chandra told IANS.
The family looked for the girl all over but in vain. Her body, with wounds all over, was found just as they were planning to lodge a complaint with the police.
Chandra said prima facie it was a case of murder after rape.
"The body has been sent for autopsy and we are trying to map the movement of suspicious persons from the village," an official said.
