Unlike other top non-BJP leaders, JD-U President and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar once again on Wednesday supported Prime Minister Narendra Modi's decision to demonetise Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes to fight the black money menace in the country.

Nitish Kumar also demanded action against people having 'benami' ( by proxy) properties.

"I support the Union government's decision to demonetise Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes and after fight against black money, I demand action against benami properties," Nitish Kumar said during his ongoing Nischay Yatra in Madhubani district.

Nitish Kumar said the decision will force black money out.

He is probably the only top leader in the opposition camp who has openly backed Modi.

Last week, Nitish Kumar supported Modi's decision, a first by a senior leader of the opposition.

But Nitish Kumar said the government should take all possible measures immediately to avoid inconvenience to people.

"Common people should not suffer," he said.

Contrary to Nitish Kumar, his alliance partner in Bihar, Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad continued to attack Modi for his decision to demonetise Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes.
