There were no active militants in Poonch and Rajouri districts - which are along the Line of Control (LoC) - in Jammu region, Jammu and Kashmir Police said on Wednesday.
"There are no active militants in Poonch and Rajouri districts. Working in close coordination with the army and the Border Security Force, we have successfully eliminated all resident militants from these districts," Inspector General of Police, Jammu zone, Danish Rana told the media in Rajouri.
He said five or seven local militants - whose names were doing the rounds in these districts - were not active.
"There are no tell-tale signs at all that would suggest that any resident militant is active in Poonch and Rajouri districts now," Rana said.
For almost two decades since separatist violence started in Jammu and Kashmir in the early 1990s, these two districts were seen as strongholds of guerrillas.
