No compromise on corruption, black money: Modi

Asserting that the central government will not submit to the opposition pressure on demonetisation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said there will be no compromise on the issue of corruption and black money.

Releasing a book on Kidar Nath Sahani, former RSS Pracharak and leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Modi criticised the opposition parties without naming them and asserted that corruption cannot be part of the system.

"It's unfortunate for the nation that some people are speaking in favour of black money," he said, adding that degradation of social values is a cause for concern.

"Earlier, a thief would steal without getting noticed, but these days he does it openly," Modi said.

He praised Sahni for his "selfless work" for the country and recalled several instances when he kept people's welfare above everything else.

Citing an incident, Modi said that once former Chief Minister of Delhi Sheila Dixit consulted him on an issue, and he gave her a very useful suggestion without thinking about which parties they came from.

"For Kidar Nath Sahni, the interest of Delhi was always bigger than the interest of his party," he said.

Similarly, as anti-Sikh riots broke out in Delhi after Indira Gandhi's assassination, Sahni was in the forefront helping members of the Sikh community, Modi added.
