"Coal India Ltd (CIL) has reported that dispatches to Dadri Power Plant during the period April-December 2012 have been more than 101 percent of the Assured Coal Quantity (ACQ) fixed for this plant. During January of this year also, coal dispatches have been more than the ACQ," a ministry release here said.

The statement follows recent media reports about power cuts in the capital owing to shortage of coal to the Dadri thermal power plant which supplies large part of power to Delhi.

Railways have also reported that since the beginning of the current fiscal, the Dadri plant has been getting more than six rakes per day to meet requirements.

"In January this year, till Jan 8, (a total of) 51 rakes of coal have been loaded for supply to Dadri," the statement added.

According to the ministry coal supplies to the plant were affected due to some technical problems at CIL "for a very short period".

"The problem has now been set right and normal supply has resumed since Jan 4," it said.

It further clarified that the Dadri plant has a low stock of coal because of "higher generation of power and having made fewer imports".

As per the Central Electricity Authority, eight stations in the northern region, including Delhi, faced severe fuel scarcity mainly on account of inadequate availability of domestic coal.
