A CBI court here on Tuesday extended the judicial remand of Noida's former chief engineer Yadav Singh till March 15 in a corruption case.

On February 17, Special Judge G. Sridevi sent Yadav Singh to 14-day judicial custody after he was presented in court at the end of his 13-day Central Bureau of Investigation remand.

The special judge had extended thrice the CBI custody of Yadav Singh, who was arrested by the agency on February 3 for allegedly abusing his official position in awarding contracts and causing wrongful loss to the exchequer.

The CBI had registered a case on July 30, 2015, against Yadav Singh, the then chief engineer, and other unknown persons under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Corruption Act for corrupt practices in laying of underground cables worth Rs.9,202 lakh (approx) and other charges, following the July 16 order of the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court.

Earlier, Uttar Pradesh Police registered an FIR on June 12, 2012, alleging he had entered into criminal conspiracy with unknown private people/firms and awarded various contracts without following the laid down procedures, and thereby caused undue pecuniary gain to the tune of crores of rupees to private firms and himself.

The FIR and a final report were filed by police in the court of special sessions judge of Noida in January 2014 and accepted by the court in November 2014.

The CBI earlier raided 12 places in Noida and Greater Noida and seized documents from Yadav Singh pertaining to 38 immovable properties/houses at Noida and Agra and other incriminating documents.

The agency had earlier arrested the then Noida project engineer Ramendra Singh, an associate of Yadav Singh, who was also allegedly involved. He is at present in judicial custody.
