Bihar's ruling JD-U on Monday issued a show cause notice to its legislator Gridhari Yadav for his presence at the release of former RJD MP and criminal-turned-politician Mohammad Shahabuddin from Bhagalpur jail.

Bihar Janata Dal-United (JD-U) President Vashsisht Narain Singh issued the notice to Yadav who is a legislator from Belhar seat in Banka district.

Singh said: "The party has asked him to explain."

Yadav was seen with Shahabuddin soon after his release on Saturday, and had not protested Shahabuddin's attack on Nitish Kumar. This had made JD-U see red.

To make matters worse, Shahabuddin had proclaimed that the only leader he owed allegiance to was Rashtriya Janata Dal's Lalu Prasad Yadav and not Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

Shahabuddin had stated that Nitish was a chief minister of circumstances.

He had said, "My leader was Lalu Prasad, is Lalu Prasad and will remain Lalu Prasad. "Nitish Kumar changes his stance according to the situation. He is not my leader."

Nitish Kumar on Sunday had reacted saying people of Bihar knew whom they had given their mandate to.

He had dismissed Shahabuddin's comments saying, "People's mandate to me was not to react to any or all statements."

On September 7, Patna High Court had released Shahabuddin from jail on bail after 11 years citing lack of progress in the Rajiv Roshan murder case.
