The Assam government on Friday banned the sale of Maggi Xtra - chicken noodles marketed by Nestle India in the state for 30 days.
"Reports received from food analyst to the government of Assam, reveals that that samples of Maggi Xtra is unsafe...," Assam's commissioner of food safety said in a statement.
Designated food safety officers in all districts have been directed to strictly enforce the prohibition, the statement said.
In Dimapur, the Nagaland government asked people not to buy Maggi noodles till further orders.
The directorate of health and family welfare (food safety cell) directed all medical and food safety officers to carry out inspections and take samples of Maggi noodles and send them to the lab for analysis.
