A large number of non-resident Indians (NRIs) from Saudi Arabia will participate in the 13th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) to be held Jan 7-9 in Gujarat, a media report said Thursday.
The PBD is held Jan 9 every year to mark the contribution of overseas Indians towards the development of their country, Arab News reported Thursday.
It was Jan 9, 1915, that Mahatma Gandhi returned to India from South Africa to lead India's freedom struggle.
"The event will be celebrated in a grand way this year to mark the 100th anniversary of the return to India of Mahatma Gandhi, the great pravasi (expat), from South Africa," said an organiser.
"All Indian nationals living in Saudi Arabia, including persons of Indian origin, working in different fields such as academia, business, politics, government, media and civil society are welcome to participate in the convention," organiser said.
