Former minister and NTR's daughter D. Purandeswari, who quit the Congress and joined the BJP on the eve of the elections, was defeated in Rajampet Lok Sabha constituency in Seemandhra while her brother was elected to the assembly on a TDP ticket.
YSR Congress party's P.V.Midhun Reddy defeated the daughter of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) founder and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister N.T.Rama Rao, the actor-turned-politician popularly known as NTR.
Purandeswari had resigned as a central minister and quit the Congress in April to join the BJP. She had joined the Congress before 2004 elections and was elected twice to Lok Sabha. She served as the union minister of state in both the UPA governments.
