After 14-day-long disruption, the winter session of the Odisha assembly was Friday adjourned sine die ahead of schedule, with the speaker accepting a motion moved by the government chief whip in this regard.

The motion moved by government chief whip Ananta Das was passed amid boycott by opposition parties - the Congress and the BJP.

Speaker Niranjan Pujari adjourned the house sine die. It was originally scheduled to sit till Dec 20. The assembly sat for just 14 out of the 26 days of its winter session.

During the session, the house passed eight bills.

Opposition parties and the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) blamed each other for continuous disruption of the proceedings in the house.

"The government is scared of running the house and discuss issues affecting the people. The sole purpose of the premature adjournment of the house is to wriggle out of a debate on the chit fund scam as the CBI has already reached to 'Naveen Nivas'," Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra told the media.

'Naveen Nivas' is the residence of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

Accusing the BJD of running the house autocratically, BJP legislature party leader Basanta Panda said the ruling party was interested in passing legislations that would benefit them.

The BJD, however, blamed the opposition for the entire mess.

The chief minister said: "It is a pity that the members of opposition continuously disturbed the proceedings of the house when so many important issues regarding development and welfare of the people had to be discussed in the house."
