Odisha's revenue collection grows 22%

The total revenue augmentation of Odisha till January during the current financial year has increased by around 22 per cent in comparison to the corresponding period of the last financial year, an official said on Tuesday.

The total revenue collection up to January last year was around Rs 22,895 crore, which increased to around Rs 27,894 crore by January this year, the official said.

Odisha's Own Tax revenue grew by around 27 per cent with total collection of around Rs 21,959 crore and the Non-Tax Revenue grew by around seven per cent with total collection of Rs 5,934 crore, said the official.

The revenue collection from mining increased to the tune of around Rs 4,698 crore thereby showing a growth of around 37 per cent over the corresponding period of the last year.

This was made known after review taken by Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi at the all-secretaries meeting held in the secretariat conference hall here on Tuesday.

According to the meeting, the fiscal performances of Odisha by the end of January of the current financial year has shown signs of an upward trend, with a concurrent increase in both its major indicators like utilisation of the budget allocations on different schemes and programmes, and revenue generation.

Padhi directed all departments to ensure 100 per cent utilisation of the budgeted allocations while focusing on the outcomes of the expenditures.

The review showed an overall increase of around eight per cent in the total budget utilisation on various programmes by end of January in the current financial year in comparison to the corresponding period of the last financial year.

Total programme expenditure up to January, 2018 has been around Rs 36,756 crore against Rs 34,014 crore spent up to January 2017.

Budget utilisation in the social sector has been to the tune of Rs 16,685 crore up to January, against total spending of Rs 14,425 crore during the same period of the last financial year -- an increase of around 16 per cent.

Similarly, the expenditure in agriculture and allied sectors up to January has been around Rs 8,486 crore, around 0.15 per cent more than the expenditure of the corresponding period of the previous year.

The budget utilisation in infrastructure building undertaken through the departments of Works, Housing and Urban Development, Rural Development and Energy up to January has been to the tune of Rs 9,015.25 crore.

In total, the programme expenditure in different sectors has gone up by 8.06 per cent by the end of January 2018 in comparison to January 2017.
