Bhubaneswar-based Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) University Saturday announced that it had inked a pact with Trinity College, London, to impart English language training to students and teachers.

The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between KIIT registrar Sasmita Samanta and national manager Trinity College, London B.M. Mohamud Ali two days ago at the KIIT campus in Bhubaneswar, a senior KIIT official told IANS.

The areas of cooperation include the training of KIIT's teachers, the design of the curriculum and the assessment of students.

Trinity's expert examiners will assess the students' proficiency in English and successful students will be awarded an internationally recognised Trinity qualification, it said.

This MoU will enable KIIT to become a registered centre for Trinity language examinations. It will get online access to the registered and approved examination centres of Trinity College, it said.

The MoU is an important step forward to make students of KIIT proficient in English, a necessary skill to succeed in the global business environment, KIIT founder A. Samanta said.

"We're so pleased to be helping KIIT teachers develop their skills and to ensure that their students acquire the very best possible English language communication skills - skills that will be vital for success in a competitive global economy," Trinity's chief executive Sarah Kemp said.

Trinity College London is a leading international examination board offering qualifications in a unique spectrum of communicative skills - ranging from music, drama and arts activities to English language - at all levels.

Each year, more than 600,000 candidates in over 60 countries take a Trinity assessment.
