One person was killed and another injured as Trinamool Congress and BJP supporters clashed in villages in West Bengal's Birbhum district Sunday, police said.
The BJP claimed its supporter Sheikh Jasim was fatally shot by musket-carrying Trinamool activists in Chowmondalpur village.
Pitched battles have taken place between activists of the two parties in Sirsita, Chowmondalpur and Jadabpur villages since the early hours of Sunday.
Birbhum Superintendent of Police Alok Rajoria visited the troubled spot where a police picket has been posted.
Birbhum has been tense since last month following regular clashes between the Trinamool and the BJP for control of political turf.
Three people - two Trinamool supporters and another owing allegiance to the BJP - were killed in Makra last month in fierce clashes.
