Over 250 shanties, spread over nearly three acres of land, were gutted in a massive fire that broke out here on Monday afternoon, officials said. No one was injured in the blaze.
A witness said strong winds helped the fire spread quickly across the shanties located in fields in Kherki Daula village on the Delhi-Gurgaon expressway.
Fifteen fire tenders managed to douse the blaze after three hours.
"A few small (4kg) cooking gas cylinders blew up like bombs from time to time. The destroyed shanties belonged to labourers working in upcoming buildings," fire officer Sukhbir Singh told IANS.
At the time of the fire, the labourers were out for work along with their children.
The cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained.
