Berlin, June 17 (IANS/EFE) More than 26 million Germans watched their team defeat Portugal 4-0 Monday via television.
According to German public broadcaster ARD, Germany's World Cup opener was watched by 26,036,000 viewers. This makes it the most watched 2014 World Cup game in Germany, reports EFE.
Until Tuesday the record was held by the opening match between Brazil and Croatia which ended in a 3-1 victory for the 'Selecao' with over 15 million viewers.
However, these estimates do not include thousands of viewers who watched the match on giant screens in German bars and cafes.
Germany leads Group G with three points, followed by the United States, Ghana and Portugal.
