AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Wednesday demanded the arrest of suspected ABVP workers who assaulted a college Principal in Telangana's Nizamabad district for wearing shoes while hoisting the national flag on Independence Day.
The Hyderabad MP urged Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and Director General of Police Anurag Sharma to act against the culprits.
"Every Bharatiya Janata Party Chief Minister was wearing shoes (on Independence Day). Will they protest and assault them also? The cowards attacked the Principal only because he is a Muslim," tweeted Owaisi.
"Bloody jokers (sic) ABVP (Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarathi Parishad) says cannot hoist national flag with shoes. Can (they) show the rule in National Honours Act?" he asked.
Mohammed Yakeenuddin, Principal of Government Junior College at Nandipet Ailapur, was assaulted and forced to raise slogans of 'Bharat Mata ki jai' by the protestors.
The videos shared on social media show attackers raising slogans of 'Jai Shri Ram' and some of them even asked the Principal to go to Pakistan.
Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT) also demanded action against the attackers. MBT Spokesman Amjedullah Khan wrote a letter to the Chief Minister, urging him to ensure that strict action is taken against the guilty.
Stating that Chief Ministers of all states and even Prime Minister Narendra Modi were wearing shoes while hoisting the national flag on August 15, the MBT leader said the attack showed the "growing intolerance by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh".
