Pakistan's Sindh to launch crackdown on street crimes

The Apex Committee of Pakistan's south Sindh province decided on Wednesday to launch a major crackdown against street crimes to ensure sustainable peace in the country's southern port city of Karachi.

According to the Radio Pakistan, the decision was taken at a meeting presided over by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah.

The meeting was also attended by high-level officials from the province including Rangers Director General Major General Muhammad Saeed and Inspector General A.D. Khawaja.

"The street crimes must be controlled at all costs," said the Chief Minister, adding that police and rangers will carry out a special operation against street criminals in Karachi, the capital city of the province.

Murad Ali Shah also said that he has requested the Chief Justice of Sindh High Court to set up separate courts for the trial of street crimes.

The meeting also discussed to beef-up security around shrines in the province. "A policy would be implemented after holding talks with the federal interior minister," Shah added.
