Cara di Mineo (Italy), July 29 (AKI) Police in Italy's Sicily on Friday arrested a Pakistani national at the sprawling Cara di Mineo holding camp for asylum-seekers, reports said.
Police found a large bag containing 287 mobile phones and hundreds of pre-paid SIM cards in Saleem Muhammad's room at the camp, which he was occupying illegally, according to the reports.
Muhammad is accused of unauthorised re-selling of goods and squatting. He was taken to the nearby Caltagirone jail pending charges.
The overcrowded Cara di Mineo camp is Europe's largest holding centre for migrants and asylum-seekers. Up to 4,000 people are believed to be crammed inside the camp, which is located some 40 kilometres inland from Sicily's eastern port city of Catania.
