A rise in the night temperatures was seen in the western and southern parts of West Bengal while the northern and eastern districts continued to reel under the severe cold conditions that has plagued the people of the state for the last few days.

The mercury rose a little to 12.3 degree Celsius in Kolkata, still remaining about three-four notches below average for this time of the year.

In the sub-Himalayan West Bengal region of Coochbehar, the lowest temperature was recorded at 5.2 degree Celsius, the Met department said.

The second lowest was Krishnagar in Nadia district at 6.6 degree Celsius followed by Asansol at 8.0 degree Celsius.
