Brazil soccer legend Pele has been discharged from hospital after back surgery.

The 74-year-old was admitted to Sao Paulo's Alberto Einstein hospital on Thursday for treatment on a trapped nerve, reported Xinhua news agency.

"(We) inform that Edson Arantes do Nascimento was discharged today. The patient left hospital at 4 p.m.," the hospital said in a statement on Monday.

The three-time World Cup winner, considered by many as the greatest ever footballer, had prostate surgery at the same hospital in May.

Last November he was hospitalized with a urinary infection after having kidney stones removed.
