Typecast as item girl and reality TV show star, Sambhavna Seth rues the image overshadowing her acting talent and making people assume that she cannot act.
Sambhavna, who did item numbers like "Chala kafila tere naam ka", says in her first film "Paagalpan" she had appeared as an actress.
"When I did my first film, it was as an actress. I was the second lead in 'Paagalpan'. But dance came out of it and I started getting dance offers. People started typecasting me as an item girl. They never thought I could be an actress," Sambhavna told IANS.
But people's mindset is "changing", she said and added: "People want to move away from the image. But it is tough because once you are tagged as an item girl, you get only songs."
Her on-screen image affects her real life too.
"When I go for award shows, I feel actors and actresses have their own groups. They look at you in a very different way. They have their own group, which shows that they are actors and she (someone who is not part of the group) is an item girl. I have been seeing it a lot," she said.
She also did reality shows like "Welcome - Baazi Mehmaan-Nawazi Ki", "Bigg Boss 2", and "Dil Jeetegi Desi Girl".
Now, she is keen to do fiction shows and portray different kinds of characters.
"I am open to fiction. Whether I get a positive or a negative role, I have no problem. I will think about what offers, but being an actor I will like to do different kinds of roles," she said.
