The Delhi High Court on Wednesday dismissed a plea filed by Delhi Police seeking cancellation of bail granted to former BSP MP Dhananjay Singh.

Dhananjay Singh was accused of destroying evidence to shield his wife Jagriti Singh, who was arrested for torturing her maid leading to her death.

Justice Manmohan Singh asked Singh to stay at his native place in Jaunpur in Uttar Pradesh and not to visit Delhi unless his case is listed in a court in Delhi.

It also ordered that the trial court will hear the matter and frame charges in one month, if made out against him and his wife.

The police had moved the high court for Dhananjay Singh's bail cancellation alleging that he had violated the bail conditions imposed by the trial court. They claimed that the accused had tried to influence the witnesses in the case, who are under police protection.

Dhananjay Singh, former MP from Jaunpur constituency, was charge sheeted along with his wife for various offences, including destroying evidence and abetting murder and attempt to murder.

Dhananjay Singh was granted interim bail on October 30, 2014.

The BSP leader and his wife, a dental surgeon in a government hospital here, were arrested in November 2013.
