The Election Commission Wednesday ordered Tamil Nadu's AIADMK government to stop distribution of its freebies like fans, mixer grinders, laptops and others till the Lok Sabha elections are over, said an official.
"We have issued orders to all the district collectors to ensure freebie distribution is not there till election process is over," chief electoral officer Praveen Kumar told reporters here.
He also warned of severe disciplinary action against officials found to be helping in distribution of freebies.
The poll body has also asked the government to remove the pictures of Jayalalithaa from the subisidised canteens and bottled water sold by the government.
Polling for Tamil Nadu's 39 constituencies will be held April 24.
