A few private hospitals here are spreading dengue scare to earn more from patients suffering from simple viral fever, Gurgaon's top official said on Monday.
Deputy Commissioner T.L. Satyaprakash told the media that the hospitals, some of them well known, were reportedly treating normal viral fever patients for dengue to make money.
Platelets treatment costs at least Rs.70,000 per patient.
The official, however, did not name any of the guilty hospitals.
He said no one had died due to dengue in Gurgaon. He said a total of 750 samples were taken for tests, of which 228 reported positive for dengue.
Over 2,000 suspected dengue patients are being treated in various private hospitals here.
