Police and education authorities in Hyderabad on Monday continued their investigation into the shocking incident in which a six-year-old boy died in a fight with his senior at an elementary school.
Mohammed Ibrahim, a class one student, died on July 16 due to injuries he sustained when a seven-year-old boy kicked him four times in his groin.
Ibrahim, who underwent two surgeries at a hospital, succumbed on Saturday, sending shock waves among the student community and parents.
The incident occurred at Promising Scholars School at IAS Colony, Toli Chowki, on July 12.
On a complaint by Ibrahim's father Abdul Mujeeb, a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder was registered against the class II student at Banjara Hills police station.
The victim's family claimed that the class II boy had beaten him a few times in the past. The senior was said to be bullying Ibrahim and calling him names.
Police continued to record statements of teachers and staff at the school to collect evidence. They could not gather CCTV footage as there was no electricity supply when the incident occurred.
A police officer said the investigation was still on. There was no clarity if the fight occurred in a classroom or outside or if the boy named by Ibrahim's father in his complaint was responsible for the incident.
As the accused is a minor, the case will be referred to the Juvenile Justice Board.
Ibrahim's family has alleged negligence on part of the school management. The education department has also taken serious note of the incident and served notice on the school.
This is the second such incident in the city in less than a year. In September last year, a Class 10 student died after a clash with his classmate at a private school.
Amir Siddiqui, 15, a student of St. Joseph's Public School, died of brain injury he sustained in a fight in school premises.
