Lt. Gen. Raheel Sharif has been appointed the new chief of the Pakistan Army, to succeed Pervez Kayani, the media reported Wednesday.
President Mamnoon Hussain has approved the choice of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Xinhua quoted TV channel Geo as saying.
Gen Sharif will take charge Friday, a day after Kayani officially retires, the report said.
