Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi Friday assured the family of a murdered Youth Congress worker in West Bengal's Hooghly district that the party would stand by them in their hour of bereavement.
Gandhi called up Biswajit Rehman, brother of Abhijit Rehman, who was killed allegedly by state's Trinamool Congress activists Thursday. The Trinamool has denied the allegations.
The Congress leader spoke to Biswajit for around five minutes and sought details of the incident. Gandhi was told that the family was under pressure not to lodge a police complaint.
New state Congress president Adhir Chowdhury met the family members of the victim Thursday night.
A police complaint was recorded at the Chinsurah police station during the day.
