Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi Monday met relatives of those who died in the boat capsize in Odisha and expressed grief at the loss of lives.

A party release said Gandhi visited Sambalpur to condole with the family members and relatives of those who lost their lives in the accident at the Hirakud Dam Reservoir.

"He also requested the authorities to intensify search operations and provide all possible assistance to the people," the release said.

The toll in Sunday's boat tragedy rose to 24 Monday, officials said.

Gandhi, who was in Odisha on a two-day tour since Sunday, also took an aerial view of the accident site.
