The railway ministry and the Odisha government on Monday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to speed up the completion of the inordinately delayed Khurda-Bolangir railway project on an equal cost-sharing basis.
The MoU was signed in the presence of Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu, Odisha Commerce and Transport Minister Ramesh Majhi, Odisha assembly Speaker Niranjan Pujari and four Odisha MPs at Rail Bhavan in New Delhi, a Odisha commerce and transport department statement said.
The MoU was signed for completion of the Daspalla-Bolangir segment of the Khurdha-Bolangir rail line.
The construction of the 112-km segment would be undertaken by the railways ministry, said the statement.
The cost of the project, estimated at Rs.2,000 crore, would be shared equally between the state government and the ministry. It is expected to be completed in six years, the statement added.
