Heavy snow and rainfall is forecast in Jammu and Kashmir from friday evening, the local weather office said.
"A fresh Western Disturbance is most likely to affect J&K and adjoining area from February 23 (Night) to February 25 Forenoon). The main activity of this system (moderate to heavy rainfall/snowfall) is likely to occur during February 24 and gradual decrease thereafter.
"Under the influence of this system, moderate rain/snow is expected at widespread places of Jammu and the Kashmir Valley and moderate snowfall in Ladakh, mainly Kargil district," said the Met office in a statement.
"Higher reaches of the Valley and Jammu region are most likely to receive heavy rain/snow," it said, adding that this may lead disruption of surface transportation, mainly the Jammu-Srinagar national highway.
