A CBI court here on Monday granted bail to R.S. Kaushik and Ashok Kumar both of whom are accused in a corruption case involving Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's former Principal Secretary Rajendra Kumar.
Granting bail to the two, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Special Judge Arvind Kumar directed Kaushik, who is the Managing Director of public-sector Intelligent Communication System India Ltd, and Ashok Kumar, who is an aide of Rajendra Kumar, not to leave Delhi without the permission of the court.
Rajendra Kumar, who was arrested on July 4 on the charge of involvement in the corruption case, was granted bail by the court on July 26.
Kaushik and Ashok Kumar were granted bail on the ground of parity but the court directed them not to tamper with evidence or try to influence witnesses in the case and also to join the investigations whenever required.
The court asked them to furnish a personal bond and surety of Rs one lakh each
Rajendra Kumar, a 1989-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory cadre, was accused of abusing his official position in awarding Delhi government contracts totalling Rs 9.5 crore to private firm Endeavour Systems Private Ltd.
Besides Rajendra Kumar, Ashok Kumar and Kaushik, other accused in the case are former Managing Director of Intelligent Communication G.K. Nanda, Directors of Endeavour Systems Pvt. Ltd. Sandeep Kumar and Dinesh Kumar Gupta, and former Assistant Director of Value Added Tax Department Tarun Sharma.
Nanda, Sandeep Kumar, Gupta and Sharma are in judicial custody.
The court will deliver order on the bail plea of Sharma on Tuesday and the bail pleas of three others will be decided on Wednesday.
