Emphasising the need for an intensive awareness campaign to sensitise people about vector-borne diseases, Delhi Lt. Governor Anil Baijal on Wednesday exhorted all the agencies to ramp up their activities and maintain 24x7 readiness in order to curb dengue and chikungunya.

Chairing a meeting to review the preparedness of the government and other agencies including all the civic bodies, he also directed the Health Department to submit weekly action taken report in this connection.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Health Minister Satyendar Jain, Chief Secretary M.M. Kutty along with the officials from all the civic bodies were present in the meeting.

Baijal directed that a massive Information, Education and Communication campaign should be launched through handbills in newspapers/hoardings.

He further instructed that local bodies should assign area wise duty to field workers and fix their accountability for their respective areas.

He said that community should be made aware about all the possible breeding sites around their premises.

In the meeting, Kejriwal also stated that in view of upcoming rainy season with possibility of water logging, all the concerned agencies must ensure necessary corrective action.
