RCF Kapurthala make merry against Police AC; Army XI, ONGC win

RCF Kapurthala pummeled Police AC 12-0 in a Group A match of the 121st Beighton Cup hockey tournament here on Friday.

Ajmeer Singh led the rout by notching up a hat-trick while Deepak Kumar and Karanpal Singh scored a brace each.

In the other matches of the day, Army XI got past Central Secretariat 5-3 in a Group B tie.

Ramandeep Singh scored twice while A.J. Rakesh, Gurpinder Singh and Gurpreet Singh also got on the scoresheet.

For Central Secretariat, K.B. Ponnana, Vinayak, and M. Hassan Basha scored one apiece.

In Group C, ONGC also recorded a win getting past Eastern Railway Sports Association (ERSA) 5-2. Penalty corner specialist Diwakar Ram scored two goals while Gurwinder Chandi, Ajay Yadav, and P. Machaiah sounded the board once each.

For ERSA, Sulamand Lakra and Gunjan scored.

In the tournament, 12 teams have been divided into four groups of three with the top teams advancing to the semi-finals.
