Actress Kate Hudson says that working on a film set might be tough at times, but it's nothing compared to the effort it takes to maintain a healthy love life.

Hudson, who has featured on SELF magazine's May cover, emphasised on the importance of relationships, reports people.com.

"Relationships are the most challenging things. It's where you do the most work in your life. You come face-to-face with yourself, and if you can deal with realising we're all flawed, accept it and work with it, you might have a really amazing, lasting relationship," she said.

Hudson got engaged to musician Matthew Bellamy in 2011. The pair are parents to two-year-old son Bingham and were going through a difficult time with their relationship in February, although they apparently patched things up a month later.

"If I look at my parents, who've been together thirty something years, I'd say no matter what they've been through, they share similar values and really like each other. It sounds simple, but it's not," said the daughter of actress Goldie Hawn.

Hudson, who is also a mother to son Ryder, 10, with ex-husband Chris Robinson, said that maintaining a relationship requires hard work.

She said: "To me, it starts with understanding your truth. I don't think it actually comes naturally. I think happiness is a practice, but not the sort you find in self-help books, where you smile and have a vision board. You're fooling yourself to think that that's how you're going to find it."
