Islamabad, April 19 (IANS) Pakistan's upper house of parliament, the Senate, Friday unanimously passed a resolution, demanding that the government remove portraits of former president Pervez Musharraf from all public buildings.

The resolution was moved by Senator Ishaq Dar of the opposition Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Xinhua reported.

The resolution was adopted by the upper house after Musharraf was arrested Friday.

The Islamabad High Court ordered his arrest Thursday for imposing house arrest on nearly 60 judges when he declared emergency rule in 2007.

The Senate also condemned Musharraf for fleeing the High Court to avoid arrest after his plea for bail extension was rejected by the court.

The Senate also called for implementation of its previous resolution demanding high treason trial of Musharraf on his return.

Meanwhile, Judicial Magistrate Abbas Shah granted a two-day transit remand to police to question Musharraf about his role in the detention of judges.

Musharraf's spokesman Dr. Amjad said the former president voluntarily surrendered to the court, dispelling the impression that he was arrested.

Musharraf, who seized power in a coup in 1999 and resigned in August 2008 to avoid impeachment by parliament, has denied all charges.

He returned to Pakistan last month after over four years of self-imposed exile in Britain and the UAE to lead his All Pakistan Muslim League in the May 11 parliamentary elections.
