Authorities on Wednesday imposed restrictions in old city Srinagar after a Nowhatta area resident died in gunfight with security forces in Badgam district, police said.
Hizbul militant Sajad Ahmad Gilkar, who belonged to Pandan locality in Nowhatta area, was among the three militants who died in Tuesday's gunfight with security forces in Redbug village.
According to the police, restrictions have been imposed as a preventive measure in Rainawari, Khanyar, Nowhatta, M.R. Gunj and Safa Kadal areas.
Authorities have also suspended Internet services on mobile phones in Srinagar and Badgam to prevent spread of rumours by anti-social elements.
