India's retail inflation measured in terms of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) declined to a three-month low of 8.28 percent in May from 8.59 percent in the previous month, government data showed Thursday.
For rural areas the retail inflation declined to 8.86 percent in May from 9.17 percent recorded in the previous month, while for urban areas CPI based inflation eased to 7.55 percent from 7.69 percent, according to data released by the Central Statistics Office (CSO).
Food and beverage inflation eased to 9.4 percent in May from 9.44 percent in the previous months. There was slower increase in vegetables prices.
Vegetable prices increased by 15.27 percent in May as compared to 17.5 percent in the previous month.
Fruits became costlier by 23.17 percent and milk and milk products prices grew by 11.28 percent during the month under review year-on-year.
Cereals became costlier by 8.81 percent and prices of pulses grew by 5.37 percent in May year-on-year.
