A local book retailer will be bringing the Borders bookstore back to Singapore.
Popular Holdings will open a new Borders bookstore in Jurong in the west of Singapore by the end of the year, the company's chief executive officer Chou Cheng Ngok said, reports Xinhua.
Popular has a network covering China as well as Southeast Asia.
Borders closed its flagship store in Singapore, which is located at the Wheelock Place prime location on the Orchard Road shopping belt, in August 2011. Its other outlet also shut its doors soon afterwards.
The bookstore closed its doors following a rental disagreement with the owner of the property, but observers have seen it as a sign of challenges facing traditional bookstores in the age of the Internet and e-commerce.
Chou also confirmed Wednesday that the company will be closing its lifestyle concept bookstore Prologue in ION Orchard Aug 25. The store is also on the Orchard Road shopping belt.
